The Story:

On 9-15-1999, Ari's day began in a rather foul manner. She couldn't find a pair of clean socks, she couldn't find the shirt she wanted to wear, and then, she managed to break the glass she used in the bathroom when brushing her teeth. After vacuming up the broken bits (and throwing away the larger ones), Ari was finally ready to go to work. (and only 1/2 hour late of her normal schedule). After getting into the car and driving round the corner on the way to the freeway, Ari noticed a small kitty on the side of the road. Being a cat person herself, Ari looked at the kitty, and suddenly knew she had to stop. She pulled over, and the next thing she knew she was walking up to the kitty to say hello. Kitty was mildly apprehensive, but the meeting soon became a purrfest, as Kitty had decided that this person was not too bad. Kitty played around Ari, and showed her how to hunt lava rocks and blades of grass, and soon it became apparent to Ari that Kitty did not belong to a home around here. In fact, when a Big Scary Truck came by, Kitty scampered up the hill of an abandoned lot to hide in the bushes, rather than running up a nearby driveway or into any house's yard.

Ari was torn. She needed to go to work, but she couldn't just leave a stray kitten abandoned. She took Kitty home, and called a friend at work for advice (and to have friend tell everyone she'd be late). Kitty ended up coming to work with Ari, where said Kitten (or TheKitten(tm)) proceeded to spend the greater part of the day asleep on a manual (and on some paper bags, which is what she's lying on in the above picture).

Workmates have jokingly called her stray.cygnus.com. She's the perfect office cat. Heck, she doesn't even seem to mind riding in cars, because she took about 100 miles of driving around yesterday in stride. Somehow I think she'll manage with my current nomadic lifestyle. Of course, now I need to finish gathering all those "cat things" that I no longer own, because I left them with my family's cats. But ah, life's grand right now, and I've been lucky enough to have been chosen by another cat.

Present .plan for Cobweb:

Update! Ari and Boy are planning on keeping Cobweb. As you may have noticed, she has been duly named. Cobweb refers both to her coloration, and is the name of one of the faeries in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It's a bit part, but Ari thinks that this will leave little expectation for what sort of kitten, catten, and cat Cobweb will eventually grow into. Seeing as how "Midsummer" is one of Ari's favorite pieces of Shakespeare, well, it only makes sense. And honestly, Cobweb is far too impish to be a Titania, Diana, or any other Goddesslike/Ladylike name. Ari thought about calling Cobweb "Puck", but well, Ari calls herself "Puck", sometimes, and that would only be confusing. Ariel, from "The Tempest", also came to mind, but both Ari and Boy seem to be really happy with Cobweb. And, well, quite honestly... Cobweb seems pretty happy with it too. =>
